What causes low back pain?

Low back pain is the second most common complaint seen in a doctor’s office after the common cold.  We all will get a flare of low back pain at some time in our lives.  Many things can cause low back pain, and most are not serious but if back pain persists, it needs to be evaluated.  Back pain can be muscular or related to spinal stenosis, arthritis, or a herniated disc.  The good news is that most low back pain is temporary and will go away with conservative care.  The key is staying mobile, avoiding prolonged uninterrupted sitting, and learning to lift properly.
