This non-invasive bedside test measures the velocity of blood flow from cerebral vessels at risk for the development of vasospasm. An increase in blood flow velocity when compared to baseline measurements offers a reliable indication of vasospasm; this test may be considered an early warning system allowing the neurovascular team to act more aggressively before irreversible symptoms develop.
